History
Glendambo was established as a Government service centre on the re-aligned Stuart Highway 140 km west of Pimba and Woomera in 1981. This was in recognition that the re-aligned Highway had bypassed Kingoonya which used to be the point at which the road to Alice Springs swung north from the East- West railway line. It was also thought that its location just over 600 road km from Adelaide made an ideal journey break on the drive to Alice Springs.
Special attractions
Glendambo has an extensive and interestingly-designed hotel-motel complex complete with swimming pool. There is an annual picnic race meeting at Kingoonya 43 km west and Glendambo itself host a young people’s Bachelor and Spinster (B and S) ball that is almost legendary.
The township population fluctuates between 20 and 30 most of whom are employed at either the hotel/motel or the two roadhouses on the Stuart Highway.
Tourist services
Accommodation, fuel and supplies are available daily and there is a good airstrip adjacent to the township.
